About Lessons

How to book a lesson

For more information or to schedule private lessons call Erica at (909) 601-6515  See you on the ice!

Ontario Ice Skating Center Private Lessons

Private ice skating lessons are available to skaters of any age and ability level.  Private lessons offer more personal attention for skaters who want to progress more quickly through the skating levels.  Private lessons may be scheduled during any Public session or Freestyle session.

Coaching Philosophy and Mission

Erica’s goal in coaching is to provide exceptional training.  Teaching her students how to learn, compete, perform, strengthen muscles, develop flexibility, and coordination is her focus.  Erica wants your skater to reach their potential and have fun in the wonderful journey that advancing in skating can provide.  She wants her skaters to be self-taught and motivated during their practice times. She believes everyone can learn.

Erica’s mission is to provide figure skaters with an avenue to pursue their personal best in the sport of figure skating with the highest quality of instruction and utmost compassion.  Erica encourages skaters to set goals and is committed to help you realize your goals and achieve your potential.  Skaters should bring a notebook out on the ice to keep them on track.  They must be able to apply the knowledge she gives them when they are practicing on their own.

Private and Group Lessons:

Hi, I am your ice skating instructor. I’m excited to have you in my class. It will be a fun experience for you as you learn my favorite sport, ice-skating. I have been instructing for a very long time and have a lot of helpful strategies to get you through this class and on to more advanced classes.

Here some helpful hints to help you enjoy your lessons:

  1. Your rental skates should fit snuggly around the toe. If not you will find that the skates will be hard to hold up straight. You should also lace them snuggly and all the way up to the top. Sometimes you will have to try on different sizes to get the correct fit. I find that a size smaller than your shoe size works the best.
  2. Please wear warm clothing. A sweater and gloves are a must. Also, if you layer your clothes you will be more comfortable and be able to move freely.
  3. You have a ½ hour group lesson so please come on time and use your public session times for practice. The more you skate the faster you’ll improve.
  4. Private lessons are available and are a benefit. Private lessons offer more personal attention for skaters who want to progress more quickly through the skating levels. With private ice skating lessons, you will get the one-on-one attention that can help you rapidly improve your ice skating skills. The main benefits of taking private lessons are that you can learn at your own pace, make your own schedule, develop good habits, and have more personal attention from the instructor. I have over thirty years of experience helping skaters achieve their success, increase their skills, strength, and self-confidence. See me for more information.
  5. Got skates? Purchasing your own skates that are fitted to your feet, are lightweight, sturdy, strong, and comfortable are just a few reasons why buying your own skates will be beneficial. Having your own skates will speed up your learning as they will help hold your ankles upright for better balance, control, and ease of skills.

I have fitted skates for over thirty years and own my own skate supply business. I can guarantee to help you get the proper size style and size you need depending upon your age, level, weight, and goal. There are many styles for every type of skater from tots thru adult. I’ll fit you to the skate you need, giving you personal service, a guarantee, and quality ice skates for your best enjoyment. Please check out my website for skates and more! iceskates4u.com

Feel free to call or catch me after class for any questions that arise. I want you to enjoy this sport as much as I do.

Lessons are paid at the beginning of each month. Please give a 24hr.  Cancellation notice if a lesson will be missed and the lesson can be made up in that month. Please be on time and ready to skate at the lesson time. Wear proper clothes to skate in. I expect each skater to practice what he or she learned after the lesson and even skate another practice day. Strengthening the muscles and working on flexibility at home will be beneficial for quicker progress. I will help set personalized goals for the skater. I have practice sheets and notebooks for you to use while practicing. Any questions please contact me. See you on the ice.

Policies

Payment Policies

My goal in coaching is to provide exceptional training. To run a professional and effective business, lessons are paid a month in advance for the full month or at the beginning of each lesson. In my many years of coaching, we have observed that the students that pay the full month in advance, are also the most consistent trainers, improving at an accelerated pace as they are increasing in strength, flexibility, and muscle memory. Thus, staying in shape.

Cancellations

A 24-hour notice is required for any cancellation. If a 24-hour notice is not given, the lesson needs to be paid for. Cancelled lessons will be rescheduled as well as a last-minute illness from school. Please call ASAP so that I have time to fill your slot. CALL: (909) 601-6515

Promptness

I am dedicated to providing the service each skater deserves in a timely manner and that means staying on time. If you have questions please ask them during the lesson time, write them down, or leave a  voicemail. I’d be happy to answer all your questions or concerns. I’d rather you ask than for you to hear someone else’s answer that might not pertain to your special circumstance.

Attire

Wear appropriate athletic clothing for skating. Skating dresses or skirts do help the ice skater to feel like a skater and improve performance by not hindering movement. As a coach, I can see the knees and posture when the skater wears fitted and flexible outfits (including leggings). Layer clothing instead of big bulky coats. Please keep hair off your face, tying it back with a scrunchie and hair clips.

Equipment

Have your own pair of skates. Quality skates will make your skating easier to learn as well as to perform and excel. I want your skater to be able to do their best that is why I sell top quality ice skates. I individualize the type of skate you should be wearing according to your ability, physique, and strength. Skates should last you one (1) year before the skater either outgrows them or needs to move on to a more advanced pair.

Take care of your skates by wearing blade guards when you are not on the ice. Please dry your skates thoroughly and cover them with soakers when you are finished skating. Skates need to be sharpened every 24 hours of skating. Dull blades will impair the ability of the skater to perform skills correctly. Also, get your skates sharpened a week before a competition. We provide exceptional skate technicians and will take good care of your skates.
